Joves Talks - Description
Proposal
Biweekly talks entitled "Joves Talks", with the purpose of enhancing the communication between the young researchers of the institute.

Description
Noticing that student diversity is present in the institute, regular talks are proposed in order to give young researchers the opportunity to explain their work. The talk should/could be divided in three parts, which do not need to be clearly separated: presentation of the present research work and physics theories related to it, with an adequate level according to the audience; description of the researcher's background (past projects, experiences,...) or steps followed before the present activity; and, future prospects and their motivations.

Addressed to
PhD students, postdocs and people with contract. This includes members and collaborators of the IEEC within their academic formation period, interested in interchanging opinions and experiences with their colleagues in order to get to know each other not only from an intellectual but also a personal point of view.

Format
Biweekly informal meetings of one hour of duration, for speech and questions.

Commitment
As a member of the group, each one is committed to:
  • Be present the day assigned for your talk
  • Participate in the learning process, if possible, when other members are giving their talk; express opinions and concerns about the exposed topic.

    Objectives
  • From the "pedagogical" point of view:
    1. Interact with other members of the institute in order to share experiences, motivations, concerns and interests.
    2. Learn to speak in public; get to know yourself and your public in order to improve and/or enhance certain communication aspects or skills; learn to maintain a discussion, learn to accept constructive and destructive criticism; and also accept recognition.
    3. Learn to be consistent and simplified with the information you are trying to transmit to your public, taking into account that what is being exposed is coherently and rigorously presented.
    4. Communicate future projects and possible collaborations with other members of the scientific community.
    5. Give a brief summary of past academic research and studies.

  • From the "personal growth" point of view:
    1. Learn to verbalize what you are studying and learning.
    2. Learn to dominate the intellectual dialogue, working with rhetoric and oral speech.
    3. Produce a learning environment between all areas of research within the institute.
    4. Be able to step aside from the speaker's view and observe the reality of things as a total.
